Ten days into the show, the country’s most hyped sporting extravaganza, the Indian Premier League cricket tournament’s fourth season (IPL-4), has failed to attract eyeballs.

According to data from overnight television rating agency aMap, the average for IPL-4 matches so far has been 2.5, compared to 3.4 last year. The average number of viewers per day rose 16 per cent, from 13.2 million in IPL-3 to 15.32 million this season, but, “Although the viewership numbers have peaked faster this season, the involvement level has gone down,” said an aMap executive. Involvement level is the the average time spent by a viewer during the match."

Kochi Tuskers Kerala skipper Mahela Jayawardene is looking for consistency as the debutant shapes up for an away game in IPL-IV.

“Everyone identifying his role is great for the team. We have enthusiastic international players, as well as keen young Indians. Most of them are keen on getting into the national team and work very hard. Hopefully we can play some consistent cricket.” Jayawardene was addressing the media at the team hotel on Tuesday.

STEPPING STONE

He talked about treating the IPL as a stepping stone to international cricket. “If they (Indian players) perform well, it gives them an opportunity to get back into the Indian team. A lot of these boys have done well over the last three IPL tournaments. I think Ravindra Jadeja had a very good game, R.P. (Singh) bowled well, so did Sreesanth. These guys are hungry for success, good for us.”"

The Victoria Mariners Premier and Midget AAA teams had a successful home opening weekend. The Premier team split their Saturday double header with the Langley Blaze then won both games against the Coquitlam Reds on Sunday. The Midget AAA team went 4 for 4 with wins over the Chilliwack Cougars on Saturday and Tri Cities Indians on Sunday.

After downing the Cougars 2-0 and 6-5 on Saturday the Midget AAA Mariners had to wait for the Indians to arrive after they were delayed in their travel from Nanaimo due to an accident on the Malahat. The Indians got on the board first scoring a run in the 2nd. Victoria answered back with 2 runs in the 3rd to take the lead. Tri Cities tied it back up in the 4th but the Mariners were able to secure a 3-2 victory scoring another run in the 6th and shutting down the Indians in the 7th."

รข€‹It's really tough to pen down my feelings after the Delhi Daredevils game. It was a mixed sort of a day where I could be satisfied with my individual performance and extremely disappointed with the defeat. So I would pick the disappointment of losing the game over my all-round effort as I always believe that individual effort is of not much worth if it doesn't translate into the overall success of the team.

So our home run of three games at the DY Patil stadium ends on a sour note. But without divulging much into the details of the defeat, all I have to say is that we didn't play well at the key moments of the match and that's why we didn't deserve to win the game."

So far, things have not been easy for the Molalla Indians softball team.

With a 2-6 overall record the team has been working to improve on both defense and offense and establish themselves as a team to watch out for in the Tri-Valley league.

The girls came painfully close to a first league win of the season April 7 on the road against the Huskies, but lost 4-3 in overtime."

Acta happy to be battling Royals for first place | indians.com: News: "KANSAS CITY -- No one predicted this. On Monday, when the Indians and Royals opened a four-game series at Kauffman Stadium, they occupied the top two spots in the American League Central standings.

At 11-4, Cleveland was in first place and off to its best start since 2002. At 10-5, Kansas City sat in second, off to its best start since 2003. Indians manager Manny Acta said he sees a lot of similarities between the pair of rebuilding ballclubs.

'I do,' Acta said. 'I don't care how early it is. I'm excited for my ballclub and I'm happy for the Royals. I'm very happy for both towns, both franchises and the young players that we have. This is good for baseball. This is the way it should be."

Kartik returns to a venue that has given him everything - The Times of India

Kartik returns to a venue that has given him everything - The Times of India:
"MUMBAI: Every cricketer has a favourite ground, a favourite venue, a place where they feel invincible. VVS Laxman metamorphoses into Bradman at the Eden Gardens. Sachin Tendulkar's romance with the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is probably as passionate if not more than it is with wife Anjali. Sunil Gavaskar's success rate at the Port Of Spain in Trinidad is one that is stuff of folklore. Anil Kumble and the Feroze Shah Kotla are as inseparable as Lata Mangeshkar and melody. It's probably a similar story with a forgotten left-arm-spinner and the Wankhede Stadium.

Murali Kartik's greatest moments have come at Mumbai's cricketing epicentre and he is back at his favourite venue to strut his stuff for the Pune Warriors against Sachin Tendulkar and the Mumbai Indians in the IPL on Wednesday."

Mumbai Indians hire jumbo staff for success - The Times of India

http://tamilfinance.com/
"MUMBAI: A bowling and batting consultant from overseas, an internationally renowned fielding coach, a well-known pace bowling expert as coaching director, mentor, team coach, an assistant coach, a wicket-keeping coach, physio, fitness trainer, two masseurs, a baggage manager, media manager, player manager and a manager to handle all these managers.

That's the Mumbai Indians coaching and support staff working to help the team secure the title this year and their list is as long as that of the 15-odd touring members of the team.

The team's mentor Shaun Pollock calls it a very balanced and professional outfit. However, so strong is the team and support staff on paper that it is easy for some kind of complacency to creep in a 40-day long tournament. That's where Pollock says Mumbai Indians have got to be wary."
